Spring Planting and Herb Garden with EcoScraps Potting Mix

My favorite change in the seasons is when winter turns into spring! ย  The dreary winter is gone and it’s replaced with sunny weather that’s not too hot and not too cold. ย  Once spring rolls around I get inspired to go outside, get active, organizeย my home and work in my yard planting vegetables and flowers.

EcoScraps Potting Mix

Planting flowers is one of my favorite spring activities. ย I love to fill planters with colorful flowers and placeย them on my deck and onย my front porch. ย  Flowers are a simple and inexpensive way to brighten your home!

Target carries EcoScraps

I found that Target carries EcoScraps Potting Mix which is sustainable and eco-friendly. ย EcoScraps Potting Mix is made from composted food scraps with the right mix of nutrients for healthy, sustained plant growth. ย  Since 2010, EcoScraps has been working to be a part of the solution by reusing food waste and keeping it out of the landfills. ย  I love they fact that they want to make sustainability mainstream. EcoScraps is about growing gardens, not landfills.

Spring planters

The EcoScraps Potting Mix is rich in organic matter and it’s great at retaining moisture. ย Theirย Potting Mix is perfect for flowers, houseplants, fruits, vegetables, & landscape plants. ย  I love seeing the colorful planters by my front door, they totally bring a smile to my face.

Herb Garden

Spring also means a lot more grilling outdoors and I love to use fresh herbs in my marinades and sauces. ย Planting an herb garden and keeping it in the window in my kitchen provides easy access for my recipes. ย  I used theย EcoScraps Potting Mixย to plant a trio of herbs consisting of Parsley, Basil, and Chives. ย  I used seeds to grow these herbs.

Rosemary Planter

I also planted a larger pot of Rosemary. ย Weย use Rosemary quite often in our favorite recipe for Rosemary Ranch Chicken Kabobs. ย  Both Planters were purchased a Target too. ย (Room Essentials Herb Planter in Turquoise for $3.99 and Threshold metal planter for $5.99).

Here is what you need to grow an herb garden indoors:

Decorate Herb Garden with Cricut

I cut out vinyl with my Cricut cutting machine for each of the herb pots, it was an easy way to label and dress up with pots I bought at Target.

drainage and tray

When growing herbs indoors here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Herbs need as much natural light as possible. ย If possible place place near a window that gets at least 4 hours of sun on a daily basis (south facing windows are great).
  • Make sure there is sufficient drainage in pots & keep a saucer underneath so you don’t damage furniture.
  • You can help your herbs grow by feeding them with EcoScraps Organic Tomato, Herb, & Vegetable Plant Food

Between 2011 and 2015, EcoScraps recycled 75 million lbs of food waste. ย EcoScraps is projected to match the number of recycling 75 million lbs of foot waste in 2016 alone. ย Recycling 15 million lbs of food waste is equivalent to keeping 500,000 cars off the road for an entire day.
