SuperHeroes Popsicles

Moms and Popsicles are the heroes of summer!  Popsicles are a tasty treat that keep kids cool on a hot summer day and Moms help to keep the kids busy with lots of fun summer activities.

Target Popsicles

You can stop by Target to stock your freezer with Popsicle treats.  Pick up some fun themed Popsicle products like Marvel Avengers and Frozen.   Target has an in-store offer where you can pick up 2 boxes of Popsicle treats for $6.50.  This offer runs 6/1/15 – 7/4/15.   You can even use the leftover popsicle sticks for lots of fun activities.

Come up with an idea on how to be the superhero of summer with your kids by bringing home Popsicles and creating an Anti-Boredom Kit. An example of this could be writing down activities on the leftover Popsicle sticks, then choosing an activity for the day. You can cut out pictures of superheroes and tape them onto the sticks. Or you can have a superhero themed party or playdate.

Make a bow and arrow out of a Popsicle stick

One of our favorite things to do with Popsicle sticks is to make a mini bow and arrow.  We did this at a party last year and it was a huge it with all the kids.    Follow the instructions below to see how you can turn the Popsicle sticks into a bow just like Hawkeye would use.

Bow and Arrow supplies

Bow & Arrow Supplies:

  • Popsicle Stick
  • Embroidery Floss
  • Pocket Knife
  • Q-tips
  • Paint or Markers (optional)

Cut notches in Popsicle stick

Use the pocket knife to cut out small notches in the popsicle sticks. Next, soak the Popsicle sticks for about an hour and 1/2 – two hours (warm water should speed up the process).   Dry it off and slowly bend the Popsicle stick so it curves just like a bow would.

We painted our Popsicle sticks in order cover up the joke on the stick.  By the way… Did you hear the joke about the banana peel?  Never mind, it slipped my mind.

Shoot your bow and arrow

To add the embroidery floss start at one end and wrap the string into the cut out notches and tie it in a knot on one side.    Bring the string over to the other side, wrap it around a few times and tie it off.  Make sure you tie the knot on the same side as you did the first one.   You want to make sure that there is not a lot of slack in the string.

To make your arrows, with scissors are nail clippers cut off one end of the Q-tips.  Load your arrow into your bow and shoot away!
