For the past several years we have had to put together a gift basket for a silent auction fundraiser at our high school in order to raise funds for the Robotics Club that my boys participate in.
Each basket usually has a theme and since I know ahead of time that I will be making a gift basket I can scout out the clearance deals at Target and pick up items when they are marked down to 70% off. Electronics are always a big hit with the teens so I make sure to keep an eye on that department. Besides the items themselves, I always make sure to include any required batteries inside the gift basket (I do this with Christmas & birthday gifts too).
Our high school has been recognized in our state at being a leader in Green Schools with one of the focuses being on waste and recycling. Since recycling is such a big thing at our school and in our state I knew the Energizer® EcoAdvanced™ batteries were the ones I wanted to include in the gift basket. Energizer® EcoAdvanced™ is the world’s first AA battery made with 4% recycled batteries and is Energizer’s longest-lasting battery. The Energizer® EcoAdvanced™ batteries are brand-new and available in AAA and AA. These AA and AAA batteries are their highest performing, most responsible alkaline batteries; by using longer lasting and reliable batteries, consumers use fewer batteries, create less waste and have less impact on the planet.
I found the Energizer® EcoAdvanced™ batteries at Target. If you are looking for batteries at Target you will find them in the electronics department in the same aisle with the printer ink. You may also find a battery kiosk at the front of the store near the checkout lanes. These batteries will hold up in storage for up to 12 years.
I re-used a basket I had on hand from a fruit basket I received as a Christmas gift last year. I even kept the filler, because I knew could use it again. Reusing packaging you have on hand is a good way to help our environment.
I added all the items in the basket, including the batteries and gift card.
I wrapped in it all up in clear cellophane and tied it up with a bow It is all set and ready to go!
Gifting birthday or Christmas gifts can easily be done with reusable gift packaging too. Get your gift, a pack of batteries and add them both to a gift bag that can be re-used. It makes wrapping a breeze and the person receiving the gift can re-use the bag. Gifting with less waste is a good thing!
We do a silent auction at our school every year and I love the idea of donating a “green” basket from our family. #client
