Making fun holiday treats is one of the Christmas traditions we enjoy at our house. Making Christmas themed Rice Krispies Treats is one of our favorite things to do. You can get creative with these treats and make them into something fun for almost any holiday. This year we chose to make Christmas trees and decorate them with frosting and candies. They turned out super cute and the kids loved eating them.
You will find a variety of Kellogg’s Rice Krispies cereals at Target, including a box with fun holiday colors. Even better, through 12/9/17 you will find these and other Kellogg’s cereals on sale for only $2.50.
We’ve got all the details so your family can make some of these fun Rice Krispies trees too!
Rice Krispies Christmas Trees:
- 6 Cups Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Cereal (I used the one with holiday colors)
- 3 TBSP butter
- 5 cups mini marshmallows
- package of ready made icing
- sprinkles
- 12 peppermint candies
Make Kellogg’s Rice Krispies treats as directed on box. I personally love using the microwave version, because it is super easy and saves you some time so you can get to the fun stuff, like decorating and eating. You simply add marshmallows and butter into a bowl and microwave for 1 minute, stir and microwave for another minute. Remove from microwave and stir until marshmallows are smooth. Add Kellogg’s Rice Krispies and mix until the cereal is evenly coated with the marshmallows. Divide into 12 mounds.
Refrigerate for 5 minutes to make them Rice Krispies mixture easier to handle and mold into shapes. Remove from refrigerator and shape into trees. I used a fluted glass and sprayed the inside with non stick spray. I pressed the treats into the glass then gently removed them out. It worked perfectly!
Next is the fun party, you get to decorate them with icing and sprinkles. Add peppermint candy to top of tree with a dab of frosting to keep it in place. Enjoy!
