Target is having a buy 3, get 1 FREE sale on cereal this week which makes it a great time to stock-up on cereal for the summer. If you house is anything like ours the kids go through cereal like crazy! My kids not only like to have it for breakfast, but they think it makes a great snack too. Who am I kidding, my kids would eat cereal for dinner if I would let them.
I took advantage of the buy 3, get 1 FREE cereal sale at Target this week and stocked up on several of our favorite Post cereals. You can stop by Target and pick up some of your family’s favorites too like:
- Great Grains
- Honey Bunches of Oats
- Honeycomb
- Fruity Pebbles
- Cocoa Pebbles
- Alpha-Bits
- and more
Post Great Grains Cranberry Almond Crunch is one of my favorite cereals. I love the tartness of dried cranberries and almonds are my favorite nut. With Great Grains cereal you get a crispy, delicious, less-processed whole grain cereal that’s high in natural fiber. Plus, is a great source of Antioxidants too.
I like to use cereal in my homemade trail mix. We like to pack the trail mix on our family hikes. With the kids out of school soon and the weather looking great we will be spending more time outdoors as a family, taking hikes, going camping and even geocaching. I am sharing my trail mix recipe with you, so you can make some for your next family outing.
Great Grains Trail Mix
- 4 Cups Great Grain Cereal (lots of great flavor combos – I picked the Cranberry Almond Crunch)
- 2/3 cup Dark Chocolate ( I used 1/3 cup chocolate candies and 1/3 cup Chocolate covered blueberries)
- 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
- 1/4 cup whole almonds
- 1 cup banana chips
- 1/2 yogurt covered raisins
Mix all the ingredients together in large bowl.
This mix is a great source of protein, fiber which makes it great for camping or hiking trips. It tastes great too, it’s loved by both adults and kids!
Once the mix it made store it in an airtight container. I even like to put it into small plastic containers for individual servings. These containers are great when you are backpacking because they are lightweight and the trail mix doesn’t get crunched.
Once we’ve made our Great Grains Trail Mix, we pack our backpacks and head out for a day of fun in the woods and on the trails of our gorgeous state.
The kids look forward to taking a break and snacking on the yummy Great Grains Trail Mix.
There are several Post cereals that would be great to add to your Trail Mix recipe. I have also used Honey Bunches of Oats Chocolate in our trail mix and it was a big hit too. You can also check out my recipe for homemade Granola Bars with Honey Bunches of Oats Chocolate.
